CLINICAL SCENARIOS IN RENAL PROBLMES & FLUID BALANCE IN CRITICAL CARE

Introduction

It is now time to take the information that we have learned into the clinical setting. In this tutorial we will look at a number of clinical scenarios in which patients developed oliguria or renal failure, and you will learn a simple method for thinking your way through the problems encountered. In addition, we will attempt to frame the solutions to the problems in a pathophysiologic  picture, and introduce one or two new concepts to the picture.

Learning Objectives

• To learn a method for evaluating oliguria and renal failure in intensive care
• To learn to explain the solution to these problems using basic physiologic principles.
