The Cost of Critical Care Result Validity

Are the results valid?

Did the analysis provide a full comparison of effective healthcare strategies?

It is remarkable that most cost-effectiveness studies in the literature compare the cost of an intervention with a placebo. There is no logic in this method. A valid CEA would compare two interventions for the same condition. A single intervention is a significant methodological flaw.  What are the competing alternatives? Is there a clear description provided? Or to paraphrase “who did what to whom, how often, with what consequences?” (Heyland 1999).
